Alcohol

Alcohol is a psychoactive substance that has been consumed by humans for centuries. It is found in a variety of beverages, including wine, beer, and spirits.

There is evidence from archeological finds and chemical analysis that alcohol dates back 10,000 years to Mesopotamia when ancient cultures used it for a variety of purposes: religious ceremonies, medicinal purposes, and social gatherings.  Fermented beverages were also valued for nutrition, taste, and antimicrobial properties.

Today, alcohol has become woven into the fabric of modern culture, a source of communal bonding, where it offers both solace and celebration and its consumption is often encouraged socially. It is estimated currently that over 2 billion people around the world consume alcohol on a regular basis.
